An A—Z of Legislation: Parliamentary Bills

In order for Government to do its work it requires the authority of Parliament. Significant changes of policy often require an Act of Parliament. This workshop will provide you with an overview of that process of introducing a Bill which will later become an Act of Parliament

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the process prior to the publication of a bill, including consultation, green and white papers, pre-legislative scrutiny, drafting
  • Understand how the legislative programme is organised
  • Understand the different types of Public Bill
  • Understand exactly how a bill passes through each House of Parliament
  • Understand the role of the bill team and how it operates
  • Understand how to effectively interact with the legislative process and the key players within it
